Choosing the right venue to suit your needs can be tricky.  With thousands of venues offering their facilities you need to think carefully about what you need from your venue before you look at what you want.

If you are having a small wedding from 100-300 people then you have the luxury of choosing from numerous venues.  However if you want somewhere that can hold 350-1000 guests you may find your searches a little more tricky.

Many venues that are large enough to hold your guests will not be as beautiful as their smaller capacity counterparts.  However, it is often a good idea to look into venue dressing to see what can be done to transform the space before ruling out these venues.   Often the room can be completely transformed using drapery and mood lighting to suit the look and feel you want to create.

Catering Facilities
Many venues are strict about who they will allow you to use in their venue and will ask you to either use their in house team or to choose from a list of preferred suppliers.  If you have a particular caterer you want to use this is something you should enquire about in your meeting.  Also beware of hidden charges for bringing in your own caterers and for corkage (a charge for bringing in your own alcohol).

Furniture Availability
If a venue offers furniture with the room this could make a big difference, especially if they are prepared to offer assistance with setting up the tables and chairs.  Check the size of the tables to see how many guests you can fit around each table.  As a loose guide a 6ft round table should seat 8 -10 comfortably and 12 at a push.  Also ask to see the condition of the chairs to establish whether you want to hire in chair covers.  If you want to have your head table or band raised it is worth asking whether the venue has staging.  If they do check that it is large enough for your purposes.
